T20 World Cup: Pakistan Semifinal Chances Diminish

In the Super 8 stage of the ICC T20 World Cup, New Zealand national cricket team defeated Sri Lanka national cricket team by 61 runs, making Pakistan’s T20 World Cupsemifinal chances more complicated. The match result has created a tough situation for Pakistan national cricket team as their qualification depends on other match outcomes and their own final game performance.

New Zealand batted first after losing the toss and scored 168 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs. Mitchell Santner scored 47 runs while Mark Chapman added 31 runs to help their team post a competitive total.

In response, the Sri Lanka national cricket team struggled against the New Zealand bowling attack and could only score 107 runs for 8 wickets in the allotted overs. This defeat also ended Sri Lanka’s chances of reaching the semifinals of the tournament.

The win improved New Zealand’s net run rate to plus 3.05, showing their strong position in the group. On the other hand, Pakistan’s net run rate dropped to minus 0.46, which adds pressure on their remaining match. England national cricket team has already secured a place in the semifinals from this group.

New Zealand will play their last group match against England, and if New Zealand lose, Pakistan’s T20 World Cupsemifinal chances may still remain alive. However, Pakistan must win their final match against Sri Lanka by a big margin to stay in the tournament race. Otherwise, they could be eliminated before their last game if New Zealand win their upcoming match.
